Fujfilm X-E1, I swoon

General gushing about Fujifilm's X-E1...

I'm getting back into photography after a bit of an hiatus, there was a point when I reached the decision to stop feeding my camera film, though it pained me to do so. I bought a cheap point and shoot that never got the results I wanted, but didn't want to get a DSLR because of the bulk and the bevy of high-end features that frankly, I didn't need. What I really wanted out of a camera was the manual control and size of my dad's old SLR that I learned to shoot on, particularly I wanted an aperture ring on the lens. I also wanted the camera to be able to take stunning pictures, and have interchangeable lenses. When Fujifilm released the X-Pro1 I was excited, but couldn't afford it, and then the X-E1 was announced. I preordered as soon as I could and have not been disappointed. The camera has everything I need, it is about the size of an older SLR - if not smaller, it takes stunning photos, has a viewfinder, manual operation is simple, the camera is beautiful, the quality of the lenses are superb even though the ecosystem is small - it is growing, and there's an aperture ring on the lens! (I have to admit this last point was about 50% of the reason I bought the camera).

Though I won't go so far as to say that the DSLR is dead, I will say that I am extremely enthusiastic about the direction mirrorless cameras are heading, though not a comprehensive list, Sony's Nex line, Olympus's OMD-EM5, and Fujifilm's X series are all quality offerings in mirrorless field. I'm excited to see what comes next.
